behind the process

OBJECTIVE
These series of three posters were originally a part of a campaign our team at Soapbox Agency organized and executed during the course of three months. Our purpose was to inform students across campus of how to read the Scroll news via website, app, and paper. Because Scroll News is focused on story telling, we decided to focus on that in our message for the posters. The image ahead is a snapshot of a stop-motion video a co-worker created. To add coherency, the objects I chose for the posters were based off of desk items.

Because I wanted to illustrate the tag line “What you see only tells half the story”, I decided the best approach would be filling the other half of the object with Scroll’s mission statement.

For tactical purposes, I photographed each object on a white background, using a large soft box for lighting. I made sure to create a faint shadow to give the overall posters some ground. “Cutting” the objects was done in post-editing with Adobe Photoshop.

Each poster’s message had to be tweaked to make sure the words didn’t feel too cramped. I needed to think about which words were more important, and could be made larger than the others. The shape of each word was also critical to give it a 3D feel and look like the other half of the object.
